Ask a sneakerhead back in 2015 what would be one of the most popular brands in 2022, and New Balance certainly wasn’t on their shortlist. It has been refreshing to see the high-quality and technically-focused brand make waves in the hype world, with credit due to their spot-on collaborators such as Joe Freshgoods or Aime Leon Dore. The founder of ALD, Teddy Santis, did such an incredible job that NB decided to appoint the 36-year-old as their Creative Director for the Made in USA line, releasing plenty of 99X colorways under that banner. Now with a 990v3 on the horizon sharing the same colorway, the New Balance 990v2 Made in USA by Teddy Santis gets the "Navy Castlerock" treatment.
Premium pigskin suede and mesh take over the sneaker with the latter of the two materials coming in light blue, acting as the base layer. Accenting this are brownish-grey overlays found on the toebox and top half of the “990” branded tongue. The star of the show would be the suede overlays located on the mudguard, midfoot, collar, and heel, taking on a dark navy shade. Breaking up this look are the silver 3M reflective N logos and cream-colored laces. More of these lighter colors can be found via the sockliner and insole that hosts retro New Balance branding in black text. Underfoot, a cream-colored Abzorb cushioned midsole gets paired with a black rubber outsole, completing the design.
The New Balance 990v2 Made in USA by Teddy Santis Navy Castlerock is set to release on August 25th, 2022 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men's sizing, the retail price is set at $195. For updates on the latest in sneakers, streetwear, and more, keep it locked to our Twitter and the Sole Retriever mobile app.
