With sneakerheads finally embracing the dad shoe trend in the late 2010s, it only made sense that one of the originators, New Balance, would get its time in the spotlight. For this to happen, the Boston-based footwear brand tapped in-touch collaborators like Joe Freshgoods and Teddy Santis’ Aime Leon Dore to highlight staple silhouettes like the 99X series or the recently revived 550. The former of the two has been getting the Teddy Santis treatment all of 2022 through his spearheading of the NB Made in USA collection, now adding to it a New Balance 990v3 Made in USA “White Blue.”
Tonal white and cream shades take over the majority of the mesh and leather construction with nubuck overlays accenting in blue and black. Around the toe, a greyish-white mudguard warps around the white mesh toebox and its black nubuck overlays while the midfoot features a large leather overlay in cream. Running through the nearby eyestays is a set of white laces, reaching the grey half of the tongue and its blue “new balance USA” branding. Sitting atop the aforementioned midfoot overlay is the classic “N” logo, taking on a dark blue hue with black trim providing contrast. Back along the white mesh collar sits a blue nubuck overlay, reach down to the “990” and “NB” branded heel overlay. Underfoot, a white and cream foam midsole gets paired with a blue rubber outsole.
The New Balance 990v3 Made in USA by Teddy Santis White Blue is set to release on November 23rd, 2022 through New Balance and select stockists online and in-store. Releasing in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $200.
