Teddy Santis has proven his place in the fashion world not only through his work with Aime Leon Dore but by securing a role at New Balance as the head of the Boston brand’s Made in USA collections. Typically, we’d see pairs release throughout the year with no true overarching theme, however, Santis has crafted two seasonal collections that fit into the color palette of his own design language but for each respective season as seen with last year's Spring/Summer and the current Fall/Winter collections (Season 1 and Season 2 respectively). Now after getting first looks at the New Balance 990v4 Made in USA By Teddy Santis “Purple Suede,” the same silhouette is getting a “Grey Day” makeover and is likely the beginning of Santis' Season 3 collection with NB.
Like many classic Made in USA silhouettes, the upper of this 990v4 gets dressed in premium pigskin suede mixed with hits of mesh and nubuck across its underlays and overlays respectively. Grey hairy suede takes over the mudguard, midfoot panel, eyestays, and heel while white mesh peeks throughout the circular-shaped panels. Navy nubuck panels on the toe and lining the midfoot panel match the lace set, heel tab, and “N” logo while further NB branding on the tongue comes in a grey finish. Rounding out the upper is the hit of tan suede found on the heel tab while the entire design is completed by a two-tone white and cream midsole paired with a black rubber outsole.
The New Balance 990v4 Made in USA By Teddy Santis Grey Day is set to release on Grey Day (May 12, 2023) through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $210.
