Running-focused silhouettes have forever remained a primary focus for New Balance over the years with the 99X series continuing to receive updates and new colorways, even a whole Made in USA line by ALD founder Teddy Santis. Teased by Santis and countless others over the last 12 months, the latest iteration of the 990, the v6, is about to make its debut. Already spotted in the classic “Grey” colorway, “Black” is also taking over the silhouette.
Covering the majority of the mesh, suede, and nubuck upper is multiple shades of black with darker tones found on the mudguard, eyestays, and heel overlay while lighter tones land on the toebox and midfoot’s panels. The titular shade makes its way to the base layer of mesh with it coming accenting by two grey shades found on the lace and tongue combo. Branding details pop off the colorway with silver found on the “N” logo, tongue tag, and “990” text on the midfoot, tongue, and heel overlay respectively. More of this metallic-like color is placed on a 3M reflective panel around the collar with a grey shade that matches the laces taking over the sockliner. Underfoot, a two-tone grey and white FuelCell cushioned midsole is paired with a black and grey rubber outsole.
