The iconic New Balance 998 is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Helping revive the model, Kith launched a two-pack of colorways inspired by architectural legend Frank Lloyd Wright, one in "Red Tan" and the other in "Mint Peach." Teddy Santis' Made in USA collection soon followed with renditions such as “Grey Day” and “Plum.” Now, the beloved 998 is gearing up for general release in a slew of new colorways, including a "Black" makeover.
For the Made in USA Black rendition, New Balance retains the signature aesthetics of the 998 model while opting for a color scheme reminiscent of other popular 99X models. The upper features black pigskin suede on the mudguard, midfoot, and heel, creating a luxurious feel. In contrast, pebbled leather in grey accents the vamp, tongue, and heel. The silver 3M reflective "N" logo comes outlined in white, with the latter color repeating on the laces and 998 tongue branding. Grey mesh then sits at the base of the upper, while a cream and white ABZORB midsole and black outsole complete the look.
The New Balance 998 Made in USA Black will release this year through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Offered in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $210.
