As it celebrates its 30th Anniversary, the iconic New Balance 998 silhouette has returned to the sneaker headlines. While upcoming collaborations, such as with the Boston-based retailer Concepts, have painted this model in vibrant shades, New Balance is set to bring a minimalist take with its "White Black" iteration, reflecting a similar theme seen in its 99X family, like the 996 "White Black" and 990v4 "Grey Black."
Taking a closer look, this 998 model is a testament to the premium quality associated with the "Made in USA" label. The sneaker offers luxury and comfort, featuring materials like full-grain leather, plush pigskin suede, and breathable mesh. The toe and heel panels are bathed in a soft, creamy white, while the midfoot panel and lace set contrast in a brilliant white. The black suede on the vamp and heel overlays perfectly complements the iconic "N" logo and the embossed 998 branding on the tongue. The collar integrates a TPU panel, mesh foundation, and suede patch, culminating in a harmonious blend that continues the creamy palette. For the inner comforts, a slightly grey-tinted textile lines the sockliner. The sneaker is anchored by a tri-colored grey, white, and black midsole paired with a black and white rubber outsole to cap off the design.
The New Balance 998 Made in USA White Black will release in 2023 through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $190.
