New Balance has long been celebrated for its classic running shoes, which have set the standard in performance and style within the running community. However, the brand has consistently shown that innovation is at the core of its DNA. In 2023, New Balance introduced the WRPD Runner, a silhouette that significantly departs from its traditional design ethos. With the New Balance WRPD Runner, the brand ventures into a bold new territory, offering a futuristic design that combines the essence of New Balance's heritage with avant-garde aesthetics. The upcoming Clay Ash colorway further exemplifies this innovative spirit, bringing a refreshing pastel-like palette to the sneaker world in 2024.
Like the recently revealed Licorice colorway, the New Balance WRPD Runner Clay Ash features a breathable mesh base complemented by plush suede overlays. This material choice creates a play of textures that is as visually appealing as it is functional. The sneaker's color scheme is a harmonious blend of a greenish-blue hue that dominates the mesh base, lace set, and suede on the heel tab. Tan suede overlays wrap around the mudguard, eyestays, and collar, providing contrast.
Adding to the contrast, the midfoot sports the iconic N logo in a striking black textile finish. The sneaker's futuristic appeal is amplified by its chunky foam midsole, which incorporates New Balance's proprietary FuelCell cushioning technology, offering an exceptional balance of comfort and performance. A uniquely warped rubber outsole in green and black further enhances the sneaker's distinctive look and feel.
The New Balance WRPD Runner Clay Ash will release on April 12, 2024, through New Balance and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
