Air cushioning is synonymous with Nike, as the brand’s identity is forever intertwined with the technology. The evolution of Air has reached new heights with new models like the Air Max DN and the A.I.R. Prototypes showcased earlier this year, but retro models have always reigned supreme in the eyes of sneakerheads. Enter the Air 180. Designed by two legends, Tinker Hatfield and Bruce Kilgore, in 1991, the sneaker was the first to feature an Air unit all around the heel and was the first to come with a urethane outsole molded to the Air unit. Since its return in the Ultramarine colorway, we’ve seen two other renditions, the White Bright Concord and Black Dusty Cactus. Now, a new Baltic Blue Lightning colorway has appeared.
Featuring the OG construction the sneaker is famed for, the upper sees a felt suede on its black overlays around the toe, midfoot, vamp, and heel. Below this sits a mesh base in baltic blue contrasted by the lightning-yellow hues of the Swoosh and 180 logos on the midfoot and tongue, respectively. More baltic blue hues are located on the sockliner and insole, and the latter features more black and yellow Nike branding. Final touches on the upper include the baltic blue TPU heel counter and lightning-shaded Nike Air branding on the heel. Rounding out the look is the baltic blue foam midsole with black surrounding the baltic blue 180 Air bag in the heel paired with a tonal rubber outsole.
The Nike Air 180 Baltic Blue Lightning will release in October 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
