A New York Yankees-Inspired Nike Air Foamposite One Appears Online

Although the DMV region is often credited with popularizing the Nike Air Foamposite in fashion circles, NYC could also stake a claim in making the sneaker a staple in streetwear. While we’ve seen the Knicks honored on the sneaker made famous by Penny Hardaway, who took the court in a Knicks uniform at one point in his career, a sample colorway of the Foamposite has emerged in a New York Yankees makeup.
This unreleased version of the Nike Air Foamposite, which dates back to 2019, comes in a combo of colors that perfectly aligns with the Yankees' navy, white, and grey palette. The Foamposite material takes on a two-tone finish in navy and white, utilizing the "sharpie" colorblocking seen during the sneaker's original run. When Penny Hardaway was first wearing the sneaker in NBA games, he had to sharpie in black details onto the original Royal colorway to avoid violating the NBA’s uniform policy. Later, Nike paid homage to this moment with the Sharpie colorway.

White details land on the lines across the Foamposite upper, the lace set, and the sockliner, while grey hues line the nubuck paneling on the eyestays and heel. Navy and grey come together on the nylon pull tabs on the tongue and heel, keeping the Yankees theme alive. Down below, the black carbon fiber midfoot shank remains, while the outsole comes in grey and navy.
At this time, the Nike Air Foamposite One Yankees sample will not be released to the public, though we can’t rule out a similar colorway or even this exact pair being revisited in the future. Check below for detailed images of the sample from Index PDX, which also revealed the Bronze Cough Drop sample seen earlier this month.
