Nike is constantly honoring anniversaries through thematic releases as the company's long history and connection to pop culture moments allows the Beaverton-based sportswear brand to truly pay homage to moments in history. Following Nike’s own 50th birthday in 2022, 2023 is the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop as DJ Kool Herc’s late-night party in the Bronx is widely considered to be the birth of the genre we know today. Honoring this occasion through a series of sneakers, the Nike Air Force 1 High “Classic” is joining the celebration.
Taking on a clean black, white, cement grey, and coconut milk color scheme, the sneaker features a combination of smooth and tumbled leather on the upper with added details, like the golden microphone charm, to nod to the 50th birthday of Hip Hop. Along the toebox, quarter panel, and eyestays sits black tumbled leather that comes accented by speckled black/white smooth leather on the mudguard and heel. Both of these panels are starkly contrasted by the white Swoosh along the midfoot. While we don’t have a clear photo of the tongue and insole as of this writing, expect similar design details to the Nike Dunk Low Classic “Grey Black” as it too celebrates the 50th birthday of Hip Hop. Underfoot, a coconut milk AF1 midsole comes paired with a black rubber outsole and completes the design.
The Nike Air Force 1 High Classic is set to release in the Fall of 2023 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $135.
