Tinker Hatfield’s trip to Paris helped give us the iconic Air Max series we know today as he took inspiration from The Centre Pompidou to create the visible Air unit seen in the original Air Max 1. In 1986, the bubble in the heel was more significant than the one we have become accustomed to today as QC issues led to a recall of the OG design, leading to the three-chamber Air unit. However, in 2023, Nike revisited this design, and we’ve been inundated with new colorways of this ‘86 version of the Air Max 1. Now, Nike is using this sneaker version to recall the 2006 classic BRS Powerwall colorway.
Identical to the 2006 pair in terms of colorblocking and material, the sneaker sees an olive green tint on the suede mudguard and heel panel, while the base comes in a green hue. A woven mesh pattern sits along the toe, while the tongue, collar, and midfoot base come in the classic mesh used on the Air Max. Accenting suede panels land on the vamp and midfoot and take on an earthy brown shade, contrasting the ember glow Swoosh on the midfoot. Green-tinted laces contrast the tongue, and the OG Nike branding is atop the tongue. More Nike branding is on the heel in green textiles, popping amongst the olive hues. The white foam midsole, which comes with the larger four-chamber Air unit found on the ‘86 version of the Air Max 1, is rounding out the look.
