All-black kicks are mostly a love 'em or hate 'em situation. You either appreciate the palette's versatility or feel they resemble shoes suited for referees or restaurant work. Even with their divisive nature, triple black sneakers are consistently brought forth by Nike, which is experimenting with how deep of a black shade they can produce with new releases like the AF1 Vanta Black. Taking this same approach, The Swoosh has prepped an all-new Air Max 1 ‘86 OG in a similar deep black hue.
As is the case with this Big Bubble version of the Air Max 1, the design is more accurate to the original version designed by Tinker Hatfield, with differently shaped panels and, of course, a large Air unit in the heel. Across the upper, every panel comes in this darker black shade, with the material choice and shade making it appear like satin is present. Nike branding remains in its usual spots, a Swoosh placed on the midfoot, Nike Air Max on the tongue tag, and Nike Air on the heel. Finishing the design is a blacked-out foam midsole with a large four-chamber Air unit in the heel in a blue hue paired with a black rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max 1 ‘86 OG Vanta Black will release in Spring 2025 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $150.
