One of the greatest innovations to come from Nike in their 50-year history would have to be the Air unit, a revolution in cushioning technology at the time of its invention back in 1978. Nearly a decade would pass before the world would get a visible air unit with the Tinker Hatfield-designed Nike Air Max 1, spawning a cult classic sneaker and a lineup that is still receiving new iterations to this very day. As reported earlier in the year, 2023 will see the reintroduction of the original “Big Bubble” version of the Nike Air Max 1, however, this won’t stop with just a standard Air Max silhouette as the Golf iteration is also receiving this treatment.
Taking on a new naming convention (the Nike Air Max 86 OG Golf), the OG “Sport Red” colorway lands on this golf-ready silhouette which gets covered in suede and mesh across the model. Sport red hits take over the mudguard, Nike Swoosh, TPU eyestays, and the rest of the Nike branding which is found on the tongue and heel. Accenting this is the tightly woven white mesh on the underlay, visible on the toebox and collar with a small hit peeking through around the grey suede quarter panel. This grey hue continues on the vamp and heel overlay while the tongue and lace set continues the stark white trend. Underfoot is where we see the biggest change as the foam sole comes with a much larger Air unit visible, identical to the original version of the AM1 released in 1986. Rounding out the design is the black, white, and sport red rubber outsole that is spike-less yet ready to hit the links.
The Nike Air Max 86 OG Golf Sport Red is set to drop in January 2023 through Nike and select Nike retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
