Nike may continually innovate in the footwear space with new technology and designs, however, The Swoosh often falls back on retro designs of the past as they continue to prove to be successful with the general public and sneakerheads alike. One model that will stand the test of time, the Nike Air Max 97, is set for a solid year heading into 2023 with releases like the “Moving Company” and “Kiss My Airs” adding a playful theme to the silhouette, however, we’ll still get our usual simple color schemes alongside these - like the recently revealed “Black University Blue Dark Obsidian.”
Unlike most Air Max 97s, this colorway gets a combination of nylon, leather, and mesh across its upper while coming in darker shades of blue and black throughout. Working across the bullet train-inspired overlays, a gradient-like color scheme transitioning from grey to black to blue works down from the topmost overlay while black mesh sits between each of these layers. Up along the tongue, you’ll find a similar shade of blue seen on the mudguard with black laces, a blue Swoosh, and a white circular tag providing some contrast. Further branding details can be found in the form of another Swoosh along the midfoot in blue and “Air Max” text spelled on the spine of the nylon pull tab. Underfoot, a white foam midsole features a full-length exposed Air unit in white while the black and white rubber outsole beneath this completes the look.
The Nike Air Max 97 Black University Blue Dark Obsidian is set to release in the Spring of 2023 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $175.
