The Christian Tresser-designed Nike Air Max 97 has maintained its status as one of The Swoosh's most timeless silhouettes, still receiving new colorways and retros year in and year out, like the upcoming "Silver Bullet" colorway. The latest pair set to launch however takes a much darker approach, coming in a "Black University Red" color scheme.
Typical AM 97 details remain across the almost fully black silhouette with wavy details running around the upper, sitting above a black mesh base, though it is slightly redesigned to feature a tech woven mesh. Around the toe, a black tumbled leather mudguard accents the cutout near the midfoot, home to a red Nike Swoosh logo. Weaving in and out of the hidden eyestays are a set of black rope laces, reaching just below the leather tongue tag with yet another red Nike Swoosh logo. Back on the heel, the pull tab gets white “Air Max” text with accenting red stitching running parallel to the text. Underfoot, the AM 97 midsole with a full-length Air Unit exposed gets dressed in black while the rubber outsole below comes in a two-tone black and red combo.
The Nike Air Max 97 Black University Red is slated to release via Nike SNKRS and select retailers online and in-store on August 11th, 2022. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $185.
