Over in the EU and UK, footwear trends aren’t dominated by Jordan Brand and Yeezy like in the US. Instead, Air Max “creps” are often the choice for style. While we’ve seen EU-exclusive kicks in the past, and recently with the upcoming Nike Air Max Plus (TN) “Brixton,” the latest Nike Air Max 97 to appear takes on the Italian flag in a "Wheat Gold" colorway.
Coming in typical Air Max 97 construction of mesh and leather, the silhouette comes in a majority wheat gold upper with red accents, as well as the Italian flag, throughout. Wrapping from heel to toe is the wavy overlays that are iconic to the silhouette with all but one appearing in the same monochromatic wheat gold, though one of these waves appears in grey. Tonal wheat gold laces work up the same colored tongue with the top hosting a grey and red tag with Nike branding and an Italian-flag-laden pull tab, also present on the heel. Along the midfoot, more red hits come courtesy of the Swoosh embroidered atop a mesh panel. Bringing the earth tones into the mix is the sockliner and insole, though that earthy look is broken up by a white Nike Swoosh graphic. Rounding out the look is the sail-colored AM97 foam midsole with an exposed Air Unit in red paired with a two-tone brown and sail rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max 97 Italy Wheat Gold is slated to release in 2022 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $185.
