Whether you like it or not, the pre-aged aesthetic is one of the most popular sneaker trends right now. From Balenciaga to Jordan Brand, all of the industry's biggest players have ridden the retro wave, but it looks like Nike will be taking it to an entirely different level with the upcoming Nike Air Max 97 "Oxidized." Inspired by the many stages of copper oxidation, if you want a sneaker that's unlike anything else out there, this is exactly what you need in your collection.
While most pre-worn sneakers might feature a series of strategically placed tears and scuffs here and there, this Air Max 97 takes this to the next stage. Boasting a multi-material construction, the top half of this sneaker features rusty burgundy crush and teal accents in leather and mesh, while the bottom half boasts an oxidized design that's as unique as it gets. Totally covered in a tarnished texture, this results in a patina-esque look that's completely different on each pair, meaning no two pairs of these will look exactly the same. Earthy brown accents hit the sockliner and pull tabs, and all of this sits on top of a crisp white Max Air midsole that results in a juxtaposition of eras that's truly one-of-a-kind.
The Nike Air Max 97 Oxidized is set to release sometime in 2023 in men's sizes. Expected to drop at Nike, the SNKRS app, and select online and in-store stockists, they will retail for $175 each.
