The Nike Air Max Scorpion Gets A Black and Purple Makeover
Published35 years ago, Tinker Hatfield created a classic Nike model that eventually spawned an entire product line, the Nike Air Max. As the silhouette evolved, the designs became more experimental, tech-savvy, and comfortable. With news that we’re getting a retro of the Nike Air Max 1 Crepe Hemp which was released in 2004, Nike is set to debut the latest within the Air Max line, the Nike Air Max Scorpion.
Taking cues from the VaporMax, the silhouette utilizes a Flyknit upper paired with a chunky midsole that features exposed Air units all around. With this black-purple look, the entire Flyknit is dressed in a deep, almost purple shade of black. Running from the toebox to the heel is a more traditional knit pattern with the tongue, eyestays, and collar appearing more like terry cloth. Just below the tonal black laces, dot-pattern font spells “Air Max” in a light purple shade. As we head to the midfoot, you’ll find a lighter shade of black used on the embroidered Nike Swoosh which stops just below the heel pull-tab and its dot-pattern font “Nike” branding.
A black insole gets a retro pinwheel Nike Swoosh graphic in the accenting purple. Underfoot is where things get interesting. The midsole appears to be double stacked with cutouts around the chunky purple-shaded full-length Max Air Unit, though a gradient-like pattern is present thanks to its semi-translucent build. Rounding out the look is the rubber outsole with a two-tone purple design.
The Nike Air Max Scorpion Black Purple is slated to release in Fall 2022 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. As of this writing, the retail price and sizing info is still TBA.
