While you might not know exactly who he is, Marion Frank Rudy's influence on the sneaker game is truly unrivaled. Back in the '70s, Nike was quickly becoming a household name in the running shoe space, but Phil Knight and Bill Bowerman wanted more. While they had grand dreams for the Swoosh brand, they really didn't know how to achieve them. That's until M. Frank Rudy came along. Originally a NASA aerospace engineer, he came along with the idea of fitting an airbag onto a sneaker for optimal cushioning and response. While Knight and Bowerman were a little taken aback by this concept at first, as soon as they got onboard it shifted the trajectory of the industry for good. To celebrate Rudy and his legacy, the Beaverton sportswear company has taken the wraps off of the Nike Air Max Scorpion FK "Marion Frank Rudy" - and here's everything that we know so far.
Taking on the Air Max Scorpion, which many see as the spiritual successor to the Air VaporMax, this sneaker boasts a racer blue Flyknit upper has has been infused with recycled materials for an environmentally-friendly approach. A game royal mudguard wraps around the sneaker, and to the laterals and medials, you'll find an orange and yellow Swoosh. Underfoot, the extra chunky Air midsole is dipped in a safety orange color scheme, and this comes with a special edition keychain which looks like a barometer - the scientific tool used to measure air pressure.
The Nike Air Max Scorpion FK Marion Frank Rudy Racer Blue is set to release sometime in 2023 in men's sizes with a retail price of $250.
