Hybrid silhouettes are often hit-or-miss in the sneaker industry, but Nike still pushes forward with new models each year. To end 2024, The Swoosh combines two retro silhouettes, the Waffle Racer (originally released in 1977) and the Air Max Plus (originally released in 1998), to create an all-new model called the Air Max Waffle. Previews of the sneaker were shown earlier this year as part of Nike’s SNKRS Showcase, but now official images of the Action Green colorway have finally made their way online.
This new hybrid's upper comes directly from the Waffle Racer, as seen with the suede details on the mudguard, vamp, eyestays, and heel overlay. Along with the nylon base layer, these panels come coated in the titular action green shade, while the nylon tongue and lace set come in a cream and white hue, respectively. Retro Nike Air branding in black and red is found along the tongue tag, while the heel tab features a retro typeface for its Nike branding. Below the heel tab sits a black leather panel that contains Tuned Air branding, the first of a handful of features taken from the Air Max Plus. Underfoot, the silhouette features the waffle rubber outsole of the Waffle Racer in the forefoot and the midsole of the Air Max Plus in the back half.
The Nike Air Max Waffle SP Action Green will release on November 14, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is $140.
