Nike is never finished with the Air Max family, as we see new innovations and retros of classic designs and the creation of hybrid models. Falling into the latter category is the Air Max Waffle, which combines the Sean McDowell-designed Air Max Plus tooling with details from the archival Waffle Racer. Following up on the Action Green and Black colorways, another vibrant rendition is hitting shelves—Voltage Purple.
Black fuzzy suede details hit the mudguard, eyestays, vamp, and heel overlay, allowing the voltage purple hue on the canvas base layer to pop. Further hits of this titular hue are found on select parts of the midsole and the nylon lace loops, which host a set of black laces. As with many of Nike’s classic designs, total orange is featured on the branding, specifically the tumbled leather Swoosh on the midfoot and the Swoosh logo on the woven tongue label.
Final details for the upper include the blacked-out tongue, sockliner, and leather heel tab, the latter featuring total orange Nike branding and the Tuned Air logo on the suede heel counter. Down below, the sole unit is an amalgamation of the Air Max Plus and the Waffle Racer, retaining the foam, midfoot shank, and Tuned Air unit from the Air Max Plus in the heel and the rubber waffle sole from the Waffle Racer in the forefoot. Finishing the sneaker is the waffle rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Max Waffle SP Voltage Purple will release on December 3, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $140.
