Wilson Smith III designed one of the most recognizable sneakers ever with the Air More Uptempo, famously worn by Scottie Pippen in the late '90s. Known for its bold AIR branding, the Air More Uptempo has become a staple in sneaker culture. Over the years, this model has seen numerous makeovers and collaborations. In 2023, a new version of this iconic sneaker debuted — the Air More Uptempo Low — thanks to Yoon Ahn and her AMBUSH label, which released multiple colorways to cap off the year. Building on this momentum, Nike is set to launch its inline variants of the Air More Uptempo Low in 2024.
Seen here in two colorways, Black Photon Dust and Dark Grey Light Crimson, the Nike Air More Uptempo Low remains somewhat true to the OG at first glance, besides the obvious lowering of the sneaker. However, several updates have been made to modernize the design. The upper features nubuck panels on the mudguard, toe, and base layer, maintaining the classic look.
However, previously crafted from leather, the AIR text is now made from ballistic mesh on the Dark Grey Light Crimson Pair and textile on the Black Photon Dust, giving it a fresh and contemporary feel. Additional updates include a nylon pull tab instead of the original bungee cord and an internal heel counter with extra padding for enhanced comfort. The sneaker is finished with the signature Air More Uptempo sole unit, complete with a full-length Air unit and the iconic outsole traction pattern.
The Nike Air More Uptempo Low will debut in a series of colorways during Holiday 2024 starting with the Black Photon Dust and Dark Grey Light Crimson, pairs on September 20, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $160. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
