While footwear brands have always relied on nostalgia to fuel hype and attention, the 2020s have been the decade of revivals. Every brand has dug deep into the archives to bring back models and styles, ranging from instant classics to obscure “failures” that may not have been released at the right time. Nike has been on top of this strategy, bringing us models like the Mac Attack, Air Max Sunder, Air Max TL 2.5, and more. Now, Nike is bringing back the Air Superfly model, first teased by Sha’Carri Richardson on her Instagram but recently appearing via official Nike imagery.
It’s tough to find solid information on the silhouette, even while researching online. The model was initially released in the early 2000s and originally designed as an ultra-lightweight runner. Its retro return couldn’t come at a better time, as trends in fashion and sneaker culture have shifted to this Y2K era of runners and low-top models. Per usual, Nike has obsessed over the details to ensure the retro looks like the OG while improving the underfoot sensation and the overall fit and ensuring it is constructed sustainably. The sleek low-top has perforated details across the upper and a deconstructed raw edge across the paneling.
As for this first look, the silhouette combines lab green and baroque brown, placing the former of the two shades on the perforated leather panel. Brown suede details are found on the toe, tongue, and eyelets, while more of this hue takes over the collar lining. Further green accents take over the Nike Air branding along the tongue, while the embroidered Swoosh on the lateral collar comes in the baroque brown shade. Finishing the design is a foam midsole with an Air bag in the heel and a green and brown rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Superfly W will return in four colorways on January 10, 2025: Triple Black, Lab Green Baroque Brown, Mystic Red, and the OG Metallic Silver. Each pair comes in women’s sizing and will retail for $100. Download the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
