Originally worn by Bo Jackson and marketed as an all-around sports shoe, the Nike Air Trainer 1 saw a slight comeback in 2022 with the silhouette celebrating its 35th birthday in style. Collabs from the likes of Travis Scott on top of a slew of GR colorways have led to the model receiving even more makeovers past its birthday year with a new “Chicago Split” rendition now appearing courtesy of House of Heat.
Following similar themes to the Nike Dunk Low “Chicago Split,” the silhouette comes covered in shades of white, grey, and coconut milk with accenting hits of red and black seen throughout. Tumbled white leather takes over the perforated toebox, quarter panel, and collar portions with the mudguard and heel overlay taking on a grey suede finish. Along the vamp we see the infamous lockdown strap come in a coconut milk hue with red “Nike” branding bursting off the creamy panel while nearby a split-colored Swoosh (black/red) comes in tumbled leather. Working up to the tongue tag we see a split-branded Nike Air tag that comes in a retro and new-age font. This same design makes its way back on the heel while the design of the model is complete by a sail midsole and tri-toned black, sail, and red rubber outsole.
The Nike Air Trainer 1 Chicago Split is set to release in the Fall of 2023 through Nike and select NSW retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
