As we progress through the years, it is clear that brands want to lessen their impact on the environment in any way possible. Sneaker brands such as Nike have made that abundantly clear with switches to smaller recycled packaging and sustainable materials in their production process. This ethos continues with the unveiling of the Nike Blazer Mid 77 “Hemp.”
Constructed with recycled materials and hemp across the silhouette, the iconic shape of this 70’s classic remains. The usual leather and suede makeup of the upper is switched to a cream colored woven hemp, giving off a handmade sweater look. The usual plastic eyelet holes are even switched for a woven hemp, appearing in the same shade as the rest of the upper, minus the top two which are made of a muted green.
Sitting atop the exposed foam tongue, a Nike branded tongue tag features “Hemp” embroidered in the same green as the top eyelets. Along the midfoot, a blue painted Nike Swoosh works back towards the red Nike branded heel tab. All of this is set atop a white Nike Grind midsole and outsole, speckled by recycled materials from used Nike sneakers.
The Nike Blazer Mid 77 Hemp is set to release in 2022 through Nike and select Nike Sportswear retailers worldwide. Coming in men's sizing, the retail price is to be announced.
