From lighting up the NBA hardwood to making sneaker headlines, Devin Booker has seamlessly transitioned from being the Phoenix Suns' shining star to Nike's latest signature athlete. His affinity for Kobe sneakers has been apparent throughout his NBA journey, but now, the tides are turning as Booker is all set to debut his sneaker – the Nike Book 1. While the Clay Orange colorway of the Nike Book 1 had an exclusive release in December, limited to 500 pairs, the Ashen Slate variation is poised to make waves in the sneaker community with its more extensive February 2024 launch.
This design, echoing the vibes of the Cool Grey PE, is an amalgamation of mesh, perforated nubuck, and supple suede materials. Dominating the upper of this Book 1 is a soothing grey shade, accentuated by a deeper grey on the perforated nubuck collar. Safety orange detailing, particularly the “Book” branding on the tongue, adds a dash of contrast, mirroring the color of the insole. The sneaker reveals tributes to Booker's life – a barcode on the inner side highlights significant numbers, including his jersey number and the zip codes of Grand Rapids and Phoenix, with a nod to his family's initials on the tongue tag. The heel tab, reminiscent of book pages, showcases Booker's birth year, "96". Notably, the spine of the heel, stamped with "Chapter One," draws inspiration from the spines of books – a clever design touch linking the shoe's name. Performance isn't sacrificed for aesthetics as the sneaker boasts a white rubber midsole equipped with a 14mm Air Zoom unit, Cushlon 2.0 foam, and a midfoot shank and is finished with a sleek, clear semi-translucent outsole.
The Nike Book 1 Mirage Ashen Slate will release February 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $150.
