Nike Celebrates Kobe Bryant's Legacy With The Year of the Mamba Collection

Ahead of 2025, news and previews of various Nike Kobe releases made the rounds online, with many excited for the increased output of releases from Kobe Bryant’s signature line. To help kick off the new year, which Nike dubs Year of the Mamba, Nike will challenge athletes to embrace the relentless pursuit of greatness known as Mamba Mentality through the collection of footwear apparel.

The Year of the Mamba Collection is headlined by the Kobe 5 Protro, with two “Year of the Mamba” editions being offered. One pair comes in an iridescent Eggplant colorway featuring graphic nods to Kobe's storied career and Mandarin text referencing the Year of the Snake on the tongue. Another direct nod to the Chinese zodiac is found on the upper, with a golden snake slithering across the lateral midfoot. On top of this Eggplant pair, Nike has crafted a University Red colorway that will remain exclusive to China.

Adding to the lineup are two more beloved silhouettes: the Kobe 9 Elite High Protro Masterpiece, featuring a Flyknit upper, React foam midsole, and updated traction, and the Kobe 6 Protro Sail, which comes in colorways honoring Kobe’s All-Star legacy and a snake shedding its skin. The accompanying apparel, including a premium satin Kobe jacket, quilted fleece, and lifestyle pieces, allow athletes to carry Mamba Mentality off the court.

The first drop as part of the Year of the Mamba Collection will take place on January 9, 2025, with the Kobe 5 Protro LNY Eggplant and apparel releasing globally and the University Red colorway being released exclusively in China. A global release for the University Red pair should follow on February 13.

The Kobe 9 Elite High Protro Masterpiece will follow on February 8, with the Kobe 6 Protro Sail rounding out the collection on February 13.
