Last night in the Barclays Center, the WNBA’s New York Liberty made history. Not only did they secure their first-ever WNBA championship, but they also won the first basketball title for New York City in 50 years. Nike has a championship ad placed front and center on its website to celebrate this monumental occasion for the city and the franchise.
In the spot, we can see the torch held by the Statue of Liberty being circled by the camera, revealing the New York Liberty’s championship ring placed on Lady Liberty’s ring finger. To go alongside the ad spot, Nike has crafted two WNBA Championship tees, one playing off the same theme as the advert. The shirt features a photo of the Statue of Liberty holding her torch, proudly displaying the Liberty’s championship ring, fitting as the team’s logo is the torch. We see a simple graphic for the other shirt containing the Liberty logo alongside text commemorating them as the 2024 WNBA champions.
