Introduced in 1972, the Nike Cortez was designed by Bill Bowerman and was the first track shoe created by the (at the time) new company, Nike (then called Blue Ribbon Sports). Since its initial release, the Cortez has become a staple on the West Coast of the US and worn by everyone from Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump to Kendrick Lamar in his music videos. While we don’t see a large influx of the classic sneaker hit shelves too often, The Swoosh is giving the ladies an exclusive colorway this July with the Nike Cortez “White University Blue.”
Like classic Cortez colorways, the silhouette comes constructed with an all-leather upper, this pair featuring white and cream hits accented by university blue and team orange. Tonal stitching details match the white leather upper, while the creamy laces and tongue get contrasted by a black and team orange Nike-branded tongue tag. The midfoot hosts a hit of university blue in the form of a Nike Swoosh, as does the heel tab with its Nike branding. More university blue lands on the Nike-branded insole, while the design comes complete with a two-tone cream and blue Cortez sole below.
The Nike Cortez White University Blue W will be released on July 14th, 2023, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in women’s sizing, the retail price is set at $90.
