Ja Morant is back in action on the NBA floor after serving a 25-game suspension due to his infamous Instagram Live stunt. During this tumultuous period, Nike stood by his side and continued to push forward with new colorways of his signature model, the Nike Ja 1. Following the launch of the CNY edition and getting looks at the All-Star colorway, a new rendition of the Ja 1 has appeared with references to Morant’s $30,000 diamond grills.
The Nike Ja 1 Red Stardust sets itself apart from previous models by swapping traditional leather and ripstop elements with a fresh canvas material. This change brings a new texture and aesthetic to the sneaker. The entirety of the upper is bathed in a singular, striking shade of red stardust. TPU reinforcements on the eyelets and leather near the forefoot maintain the shoe's performance integrity, while the canvas on the mudguard and collar adds a casual flair. On the lateral heel, we see Ja Morant's signature, TMT, embroidered atop a red patch.
The tongue tag graphic stands out amongst the tonal hues, representing Morant's real-life diamond grills he purchased from Johnny Dang. The graphic includes Morant's "JA" logo set against a backdrop of four shiny teeth, covered in blue diamonds. The sneaker is completed with a tan midsole with splatter paint details and a black rubber outsole.
The Nike Ja 1 Red Stardust will release in Spring 2024 through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
