Nike is set to open its first U.S. location for its Jordan World of Flight store in Philadelphia, marking a significant expansion of its dedicated retail spaces for the Jordan Brand. This development continues Nike's strategy to enhance its retail experience, particularly for fans of the Jordan Brand, which has historically been integrated into Nike's broader sportswear and basketball gear offerings.
The Jordan World of Flight store concept was first introduced in December 2022, with its debut location in Milan, Italy. Offering an immersive shopping experience focused solely on the legacy and products of Michael Jordan's iconic brand, a second location was opened in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan, in March 2023. Despite the popularity and success of the storefronts, the U.S. has yet to see a location.
Shared by sneakerlegal and reported on by NBC Philadelphia, the outlet viewed documents that showed that Nike submitted a proposal to the Philadelphia Historical Commission to renovate 1617 Walnut St, which was marked a historical site in 2020. The documents include renderings and detailed descriptions of the work planned for establishing the store, with the concept being “inspired by the intersection of Philadelphia Historical Architecture and Jordan Brand."
The opening of the Jordan World of Flight in Philadelphia represents a new chapter in Nike's retail strategy, one that emphasizes dedicated spaces for its most iconic brands. As of this writing, Nike has not officially announced the retail location’s opening, so it may be some time before we see a dedicated Jordan Brand storefront in the U.S. Keep it locked to the Sole Retriever mobile app to stay updated on the latest releases, raffles, news, and more in the sneaker and streetwear world.
