Kobe Bryant’s signature sneaker line with Nike has had a cult following for decades now thanks to its stylish design and technical prowess, truly shown off with the series of Protro releases that have been seen as of late. While there was a falling out between Nike and Bryant’s estate following controversy around the Nike Kobe 6 “Mambacita” that was designed to honor both Kobe and his daughter, the two parties came together to continue giving fans of Kobe an opportunity to live his Mamba mentality through their sneakers. With the previously mentioned “Mambacita” colorway being the only release from the two since 2021, it seems that we’re set to get a new Nike Kobe 6 with images of the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “Prelude” emerging.
Coming in the exact same appearance as the 2014 release, the colorway pays homage to LA and Bryant’s 2011 All-Star Game MVP award. The infamous faux snakeskin upper is covered in various graphics of palm trees, sharks, and other aquatic creatures in a very sea-friendly shade of turquoise. Ocean Blue laces run up the mesh tongue to the Kobe logo in a volt green, borrowing the same hue as the Nike Swoosh along the midfoot. Towards the rear, more colorful tones are utilized with the sockliner getting a vibrant orange and the tongue lining receiving a purple makeover. Underfoot, the foam midsole features Zoom Air cushioning while the rubber outsole below gets covered in a semi-translucent icy blue.
The Nike Kobe 6 Protro Prelude is rumored to retro in 2022, releasing through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is TBA.
