John McEnroe's signature sneaker, the Nike Mac Attack, returned in full force in 2023, reminding sneakerheads of its iconic status from its 1984 debut. The legacy of this silhouette has been refreshed and celebrated with the release of its OG colorway, followed by iterations like the Red Crush and White Black. On top of that, collaborations from Social Status gave a fresh twist to the sneaker's narrative. A new non-OG colorway from Nike has surfaced as we eagerly anticipate upcoming releases from the James Whitner-led retailer, like the Cobblestone Off-Noir and Split Vision, and the buzzed-about Travis Scott edition.
Stepping into unfamiliar territory, this Oil Green Ironstone iteration of the Mac Attack introduces hairy suede, a bold material choice for the sneaker. This textured material garnishes the Swoosh, collar, and select segments of the heel tab. The oil green overlays enveloping the toe, eyestays, and heel adorn a more familiar short-haired suede. Below this tactile upper, a dual-tone mesh base unfolds: a warm brown occupies the front, while a soft cream spans the rear. A brown and green checkerboard pattern graces the brown tongue, nodding to the OG tongue tag’s design. The classic Mac Attack midsole is finalizing the look in pristine white, offset by brown stitching and underpinned by a sail rubber outsole.
The Nike Mac Attack Oil Green Ironstone will release on March 1, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
