All eyes have been on women's basketball in the last few months as the women's championship game during March Madness had higher viewership than their male counterparts. On top of this, more women are getting signature performance basketball models. One player in particular helped Nike kick off its return to the women's basketball realm: Sabrina Ionescu. Her model proved that a women's performance sneaker could be a hit outside of just the WNBA, and now we have news that Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson are getting signature models. Before either of these players gets their first sneaker, Sabrina's second signature with Nike, the Nike Sabrina 2, has just appeared in a Tunnel Vision Cave Purple rendition. Alongside this pair, we expect the Orchestrator colorway to launch on the same day.
The Nike Sabrina 2 maintains the original Sabrina 1's silhouette while introducing enhancements that cater to the dynamic demands of the sport. This model departs from textile overlays on the heel, instead moving this towards the collar. The shoe incorporates a large panel extending from the lateral toe, reinforced with TPU near the toe, which ascends toward the lacing system, integrating seamlessly with the midfoot's cable support structure. On the medial side, the same vertical Swoosh design is present near the heel.
The tongue boasts Sabrina Ionescu's logo, and the side Swoosh adopts an iridescent finish against the cave purple backdrop. Additional branding for Sabrina is found via her signature near the midfoot on the sole. Below sits an Air Zoom-cushioned foam midsole for responsive performance and a grippy rubber outsole. For this colorway, we see a mixture of black and purple, the latter appearing on the overlay near the toe and eyelet, the textile on the heel, and the sole unit. Black details appear on the canvas toe, mesh midfoot, tongue, heel tab, and sockliner.
The Nike Sabrina 2 Tunnel Vision Cave Purple W will release on June 28, 2024, through Nike and select retailers online and in-store. Available in unisex and grade school sizing, the retail prices are set at $130 and $100, respectively.
