While the sport of tennis played a major role in the current landscape of sneakers, basketball took over and helped explode the current marketplace as many of the most popular models can be traced back to the hardwood court. Even still, tennis stars like Roger Federer had their moments in the spotlight and even at one point was a Nike athlete (that is until ON Running snatched him) with signature silhouettes under his name. Much like the upcoming revival of the Mac Attack model, 2023 will also see Federer’s fusion of tennis and basketball return with the Nike Zoom Vapor AJ3 “Racer Blue” recently being spotted.
Keeping the same general shape as the Nike Zoom Vapor Tour with the material makeup and iconic details found on the AJ 3, the “Racer Blue” colorway is recreated in OG form with an all-white tumbled leather upper accented by hits of true blue throughout. These vibrant colors land on the top and bottommost eyestays, Jumpman/Nike Air branding, sockliner, and on the heel of the sole while elephant print suede takes over the heel overlay and mudguard. Underfoot, a Zoom Air-cushioned midsole gets covered in white while the grippy rubber outsole below gets an all-black finish (sans the white lines and Nike branding). Also, since Federer is signed to another brand, all his branding and RF logos have been removed from this upcoming pair.
The Nike Zoom Vapor AJ3 Racer Blue is set to release in April 14th, 2023 through Nike and select Nike retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $180.
