High anticipated since the final vote, the Consortium Cup winner finally arrives. The adidas x Offspring Response Ozweego is the culmination of 32 retailers from around the globe competing with their designs for votes on the adidas Confirmed App. A four-round knockout competition highlighted the Classics, Basketball, Running, and Hybrids genres.
Emerging triumphant from the Hybrids-centred final after a closely contested vote, London-based Offspring kept the inspiration close to home throughout the competition, and the Response Ozweego is no different. It hasn't been legal tender since 1988, but the old English £1 note was used as a base to influence the design. The choice of the note was no mistake, as they're no longer in circulation, Offspring decided to implement the sole unit of the RS Ozweego, a shoe that adidas no longer has in production.
The hybrid element was a slightly modified Response CL upper for the adidas × Offspring Response Ozweego, which sits upon a cream and white adiPrene sole. Using a premium material mix heavily featuring a mesh underlay, with suede and nubuck overlays, the slight change to the upper has one overlapping thread of mesh running directly across the Three Stripes on the side. The colorway comes from the colors used on the £1 note; white, green, and cream hues blend seamlessly with shades of light grey and pale brown to invoke history and provide a neutral aesthetic.
Offspring demonstrated their care for the finishing touches and the story of the shoes incredibly well through all four of their winning entries, and this pair is no different. There's even a little hidden detail in the form of a holographic panel in the heel, just as the bank notes in the UK have holographic labels. A custom debossed serial number on the medial panel of suede, enhanced detailing to the midsole, and the tongue tags carry the co-branding of both Offspring and the Consortium Cup finish off this winning design.
The Offspring x adidas Response Ozweego Consortium Cup Winner is set to release on August 3, 2024, exclusively via Offspring in-store and online. Coming in men's sizing, retail is set at $181.
