Over at the Three Stripes, collaborators through the brand's Consortium division span far and wide across the globe. Heavy hitters like SNS, Sneaker Politics, and END. have presented plenty of co-branded offerings throughout the years, though adidas has decided to pit 16 of their top collaborators against one another in a bracket-style tournament. Taking place over the last few weeks, adidas’ Consortium Cup allowed their various partners to present new footwear designs, allow fans to vote on their favorite and produced each respective round winner’s design. Overall, UK-based retailer Offspring survived the tournament and was crowned the winner of the first adidas Consortium Cup.
Across four rounds, Offspring presented four distinct sneakers that will eventually make their way to retail shelves with the first round featuring one of the hottest silhouettes on the market - the adidas Samba. Offspring’s take on the model featured an all-over greyscale design across the suede upper with accenting hits of white seen on the tongue, laces, Three Stripes, and heel tab. On all of these locations (sans the laces), we see black paisley print that can be revealed once worn away while we see Offspring’s logo take over the tongue tag.
Further on in the tournament, the adidas Centennial Low got a lux makeover with a mixture of creams and tans throughout the leather and mesh construction. Exposed foam lines the edges of the various panels in a natural yellow shade and Offspring’s logo gets debossed onto the lateral heel. Back on the heel, a wear-away detail once exposed presents the Thames River, a major geographical feature in the city of London. A final hit nodding to the city is also found on the gilded “LONDON” text along the midfoot.
Another London-inspired sneaker came in the form of the ZX8000 with its greyscale build taking notes from Portland stone, a material used in various buildings across the city. As for the sneaker itself, suede and mesh panels appear throughout with faint hits of black and cream found along the Three Stripes and laces respectively. Golden “ZX LDN” text is found near the lateral collar with other details, like the Offspring-branded tongue and Thames River-laden lace dubrae, getting a makeover.
Rounding out their four-pack of tournament-winning designs, Offspring took inspiration from the discontinued £1 note on a hybrid model that fuses the adidas Response CL and the Raf Simons RS OZWEEGO. Throughout the suede, mesh, and nubuck upper, nods to the banknote both in color palette and added details are present as we see Offspring branding take on the font of the note and a debossed serial number featured on the profile.
For the entire tournament, we saw 16 different designs that will eventually be produced and sold at retail to consumers throughout 2023. The full list of winners can be viewed below.
