Although Kiko Kostadinov teams up with Asics through his design label and runs the brand’s SportStyle division, he has even found a way to work with the Japanese footwear brand through another party — OTTO 958. Spearheaded by art gallery Morán Morán and Kostadinov, the OTTO 958 label has worked with Asics in the past on the Asics Gel-Flexkee silhouette in two colorways and is following up on this with their take on the Protoblast silhouette.
Retaining the same color palette as one of the Gel-Flexkee colors, the pair features a combo of green and black across its multi-layered upper. Green crinkled leather lands on the upper profile, running back to the black leather heel tab and cut with a panel of clear TPU in its center. Further, black hits are located on the paneling around the mudguard, eyestays, tongue, and collar, the latter featuring an embroidered Asics A logo in green. While Asics branding also appears on the tongue and the insole of the right sneaker, we see OTTO 958 make its mark on the toebox with the brand’s O logo embroidered in the center of the mesh, the brand’s name spelled out on the left insole, and finally, OTTO 958 embroidered in black on the midfoot. Down below, the silhouette comes with the standard Protoblast midsole in black paired with a green rubber outsole.
The OTTO 958 x Asics Protoblast Green Black will release on November 26, 2024, through OTTO 958’s website. A wider release via Asics and the retail price has yet to be announced.
