While unlikely partners, Japanese retailer BEAMS and Parisian sandwich shop Paperboy Paris crafted some of the most sought-after collaborative sneakers in recent years. This time, the duo has chosen Asics’ budget-friendly GT-2160 as their canvas, coinciding with the launch of Paperboy's new women-focused sister brand, Papergirl Paris. Previously, BEAMS and Paperboy Paris worked on the New Balance 1500 and 920.
The Papergirl Paris x BEAMS x Asics GT-2160 design is a harmonious amalgamation of textures and colors. The sneaker features a white mesh base, offering breathability and a lightweight feel. This mesh is complemented by metallic silver overlays adorning the mudguard, vamp, eyestays, Asics Tiger Stripe, and heel, adding a touch of elegance and durability to the design.
Pink accents on the lace set inject a vibrant contrast, while white dots scattered across the overlays provide an intriguing visual detail. Branding plays a vital role in this collaboration, with Papergirl branding on the lateral heel, BEAMS on the heel tab, and co-branding between all three on the insole, marking the collaboration's identity. The sneaker is underpinned by a white and cream GT-2160 midsole, known for its comfortable cushioning, and is finished with a black rubber outsole for grip and longevity.
The Papergirl Paris x BEAMS x Asics GT-2160 W was released at BEAMS in Japan on January 13, 2024, while a wider release via Paperboy Paris online and in-store will take place on January 19.
