Often, footwear collaborations are just that - a dope pair of kicks. There are exceptions to this where brands and collaborators use their platform to spread positive messages and help out charitable organizations. Enter Ron Funches, the actor, comedian, and writer, who has starred in some of the biggest shows and movies of the last half-decade, including BoJack Horseman, Trolls, and Black-ish.
As the father of a child diagnosed with autism, Funches is very open about his and his son's experiences. He often promotes the non-profit Next For Autism, a group focused on transforming the national landscape of services for people with autism. Helping this organization and providing the world with a dope pair of sneakers, Ron Funches is again teaming up with Puma (as well as Foot Locker and Champs Sports) to celebrate Autism Awareness Month.
As a part of this release, Foot Locker and Puma are donating $25,000 to Next For Autism as a part of Foot Locker’s “Be Seen” initiative. This campaign focuses on being inclusive to those with physical, mental, and learning disabilities. Ron and Puma maintain the standard shape of the iconic RS-X while adding an adaptive lacing system to the mix. Construction-wise, this RS-X features a mixture of textured leather, suede, and mesh, with the color palette sticking to earth tones on the upper. Greenish hues intertwined with tan hits take over most of the sneaker, as seen on the textured leather mudguard, eyestays, and heel overlays. A camo-like pattern graces the mesh underlay while the Puma Formstrip gets dressed in suede. Co-branded details between Ron and Puma land on the olive pull tab atop the tongue, contrasting the bright purple hit on the adaptive lacing system. Underfoot, the sole unit receives a vibrant makeover with purple portions contrasting the volt green seen throughout the foam cushioning. Rounding out the design is the gum rubber outsole.
The Ron Funches x Puma RS-X Be Seen will be released on April 12th, 2023, through Foot Locker and Champs Sports online and in-store. Releasing in full-family sizing, the retail price is $120 for unisex (men and women) sizes, $90 for GS, $75 for PS, and $65 for TD.
