Salehe Bembury is having a prolific year, with many of his collaborations garnering much love from the sneaker community. His run of original silhouettes will continue with Brandblack, as Bembury teases what’s to come.
Brandblack debuted in 2013 as a premium performance brand started by David Raysse, the designer responsible for the iconic Fila Grant Hill 2. Together with Creative Director Billy Dill, Raysse, who was the former Director of Basketball at adidas in the late 90’s, continues to challenge the way we view performance footwear, layering different materials and uniquely shaped panels while incorporating highly technical elements for looks that straddle the line between high performance and high fashion.
Bembury previewed his Brandblack silhouette on Instagram. The Spunge logo motif, seen in print on the sock, translates into lockdown straps for the laces as overlays on the upper, as the logo is printed repeatedly around the ankle collar. The VIBRAM Wrap Tech outsole is the most notable feature of the shoe, a technology that Brandblack has tested and perfected through various performance basketball and casual sneakers.
It’s only natural that the sneakers contain a mix of textures and colors that could be found in nature, vibing with the leafy bottoms Salehe Bembury styles with the sneakers in the photo. Two different colorways have been teased so far. The one officially teased by Bembury ties together the various colors of the upper with a simple tan Wrap Tech outsole, while the primarily green upper of the second colorway uses an olive green Wrap Tech outsole.
