Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA) signed with Converse in 2020, and earlier this year, rumors circulated that SGA was exploring new opportunities to secure a signature sneaker. However, he ultimately re-signed with Converse, securing his first signature model and taking on the role of Creative Director of Converse Basketball (which he starts in September). This new partnership promises to bring fresh and exciting designs to the Converse lineup, starting with SGA's take on the classic Converse Weapon.
Maintaining the iconic silhouette's classic design elements, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Converse Weapon brings a vintage aesthetic to the retro basketball model. The sneaker features a smooth white leather upper, covering key areas such as the mudguard, toebox, midfoot panel, heel, and the distinctive Y strap on the collar. These elements preserve the Weapon's classic appeal while ensuring durability and style on and off the court.
The addition of pink accents on the Chevron star logo and collar, both treated with a cracked leather finish, injects a touch of vintage flair and a nod to aged aesthetics. The Converse Weapon-branded tongue tag also carries pink detailing, complementing the exposed foam edges around the tongue, which enhances the sneaker's retro vibe. Underfoot, the shoe retains the traditional Converse Weapon midsole and a tonal rubber outsole for a cohesive look.
The Shai Gilgeous-Alexander x Converse Weapon will release on August 14, 2024, through Converse and select retailers online and in-store. Coming in men’s sizing, the retail price is set at $130.
