Last night, Sabrina Ionescu and her New York Liberty took the court against the Minnesota Lynx and unfortunately lost by two points. Even still, Sabrina’s performance in her latest signature sneaker, the Nike Sabrina 2, was solid, dropping 19 points, dishing out three assists, and grabbing five rebounds. Ahead of the game, SLAM Magazine unveiled that Nike worked with the publication to make a special Sabrina 2 colorway to celebrate the magazine’s 30th birthday in 2024.
In an interview with SLAM, Sabrina spoke on her signature sneaker line, stating, “I know what some people might think: ‘It’s just a shoe…’ But really, I think signature shoes like this can help continue to push the game forward, for all.” Her mission to push the game forward for all is evident in the design of this SLAM Magazine rendition, with the Swoosh getting a chrome finish to act like a mirror. “My favorite detail is the Swoosh and being able to see your own reflection,” said Ionescu. “I want everyone to see themselves, what it is that they want to create and what it is that they want to dream — to be able to go out and do that in my shoe.”
As for the color palette, SLAM covered the sneaker almost entirely in a seafoam shade, closely matching her New York Liberty uniform. The branding details remain standard, except for the added SLAM logos on the insole and heel, commemorating the magazine's 30th anniversary. The Zoom Air-cushioned foam midsole in a tonal seafoam hue paired with a semi-translucent clear outsole finishes the look.
Unfortunately for the public, the SLAM Magazine x Nike Sabrina 2 30th Anniversary W will be exclusive to friends and family of SLAM and Sabrina Ionescu.
