This Nike Air Foamposite One Celebrates SLAM Magazine’s 30th Anniversary
PublishedOver its 30-year history, SLAM Magazine has highlighted some of the greatest basketball players on the planet, with dozens of legends gracing the cover of the publication's print version. While we’ve seen Steph Curry, Allen Iverson, and Sabrina Ionescu’s signature sneakers all pay homage to the magazine, specifically one of the issues they appeared on in the past, another friends-and-family sneaker has appeared — Penny Hardaway’s Nike Air Foamposite.
Taking cues from the 30th issue of SLAM from December 1998, which featured Penny in his Orlando Magic uniform, and the original Foamposite sketch from Nike designer Eric Avar, we see a printed graphic translating this colored sketch onto the Foamposite material of the upper. Solid hits of blue take over the nubuck eyestays, mesh tongue, sockliner, and collar, while black, white, and blue are featured on the split SLAM and Penny 1 Cent logos along the tongue tag. An added detail from Avar’s sketch includes a Nike Swoosh along the carbon fiber shank on the lateral side.

Back on the heel, we see more split logo designs from SLAM and Penny Hardaway. In a direct nod to the cover story from the December ‘98 issue of SLAM, the insole features graphics from the printed article and 30th-anniversary branding for SLAM itself. Finishing the design is the clear blue rubber outsole.
While this historical Nike Air Foamposite One brings Eric Avar’s original sketch to life, the public won’t have a shot at the pair as it will remain a friends-and-family release.
