Malaysia is well-known for its sneakerhead community, with the region even having its sneaker show, SneakerLAH. Over its history, SneakerLAH has partnered with brands like Asics to launch collaborative footwear. The Japanese footwear label previously worked with the sneaker show on a Gel-Lyte III colorway in 2022. Now, the sneaker show is getting its colorway of the recently revived Asics Skyhand OG in a colorway that pays homage to an iconic Malaysian snack brand, Mamee Monster.
The crispy noodle snack brand is honored via details on the sneaker and the custom packaging that features the monster mascot. Grey suede lands on the mudguard, eyestays, and heel overlay, while the canvas base is tonal white. Noodle-shaped laces in a pale color run across the tongue, resembling crunchy snack noodles, while the heel tab features metallic silver foil inspired by the seasoning packets that come with the snack. More creamy colors come along the Asics Tiger Stripe on the midfoot and the speckled rubber midsole below. Final details include the Mamee Monster and SneakerLAH logo on the heel, pin sets, and lace dubraes that come packaged in foil similar to the snack’s seasoning packet.
The SneakerLAH x Asics Skyhand OG will release exclusively via SneakerLAH online and in-person during the upcoming SneakerLAH event on November 2nd and 3rd. For the online portion of this release, SneakerLAH will host a raffle on its website from October 29th to the 31st, with pairs shipping out after SneakerLAH 2024. Available in unisex sizing, the retail price is RM 629 (approx $145 USD).
