Earlier this year, reports emerged that stated The Whitaker Group, which has become a pivotal partner for Jordan Brand and Nike, would begin to work with adidas on collaborative footwear releases. While TWG’s PR agency contacted Sole Retriever and stated that the rumors were false, this is not the case as the retail conglomerate's art gallery 38a hosts an adidas exhibit featuring a friends-and-family adidas Superstar.
Created to commemorate 38a launching a new gallery in Charlotte, this collaborative Superstar takes on a black-and-white color palette. The iconic shelltoe is present in black, while tumbled leather details on the tongue, midfoot, and heel take on the same black shade. Contrasting details in white are located along the cracked leather Three Stripes, heel tab, and the two-tone black-and-white thick, flat lace set. Co-branded details for TWG’s 38a art gallery are found on the tongue tag. Playing off the theme of playing cards, we see the heel tab feature a “Q” for Queen and “K” for King on the left and right shoe, as well as an added hang tag that comes with a King and Queen card on the front and back. This same theme is applied to the insole and on the reverse of the tongue tag, the latter featuring the phrase “To The Queens + Kings.” Finishing the sneaker is the black sole unit.
Unfortunately for the public, the 38a x adidas Superstar Queens & Kings will remain a friends-and-family exclusive as pairs were gifted to select individuals by The Whitaker Group.
