Nike lost one of the greatest golf players ever when Tiger Woods announced he would leave The Swoosh after being signed to the brand for nearly 30 years. Following his departure, Woods quickly announced his golf brand, Sun Day Red, a play on the iconic red polo he wears on the course, with early previews of a golf shoe shared online. However, nearly a year later, Tiger and Sun Day Red announced the launch of the first Sun Day Red shoe for the public.
Following an early teaser, Sun Day Red officially unveiled the silhouette — the Sun Day Red Pioneer Cypress. Sole Retriever was also fortunate enough to sit down with Charley Hudak and Tyler Pinkos, two designers who worked on the sneaker, for an exclusive interview that gives us insights into the model's design process.
It took the brand nearly 20 prototypes before reaching the final product, which spares no effort in providing some of the most advanced footwear technology for golfers' feet. Tiger provided insight into various design features, including his preference for having a low-to-the-ground feel for stability, control, and feel for drives and putts. Sun Day Red equips the sneaker on its upper with premium, full-grain leather accented by a micro-perforated quarter panel and a Tiger Stripe debossed pattern on the heel counter.
Inside, the silhouette features a hidden message from Tiger, the quotes "Do the work" and "Put in the time." For traction, Tiger ensured that greens preservation was key, adding a spike design that provides a tiger-like claw effect on the ground. Specifically, three concentric circles around each hexagon-shaped lug are combined with the four claw marks in the front and heel to mimic a tiger's footprint.
Tiger Wood’s Sun Day Red Pioneer Cypress will release on December 4, 2024, through Sun Day Red’s website. As of now, pricing information has yet to be announced.
