As we continue to see techy mesh runners dominate the sneaker landscape, Asics has remained one of the more popular options in this footwear category. Not only has the Japanese label brought forth plenty of hit GR colorways across series like the Gel-Kayano, but it has also produced collaborations that elevate these humble once-performance models. Adding to the recently revived Gel-Kayano 20’s collaborative ventures, Asics is teaming up with Korean-based label Unaffected on three colorways.
Seen in Black Obsidian, White Glacier, and Umber Mud, the sneakers each come with a split mesh construction, featuring a transparent TPU mesh near the front half of the sneaker (akin to Above The Clouds’ GT-2160 series) and a standard woven mesh near the back half. A smokey TPU reinforcement acts as a mudguard for the bottom half of the upper, running from the heel counter down towards the toebox. Unaffected adds more technically focused details through the speed lacing setup and makes its mark along the lateral heel, replacing the usual Gel-Kayano 20 text. Standard Asics branding is located along the tongue tag, insole, and heel counter. The foam midsole finishes the design with Gel inserts near the heel and forefoot paired with a tonal rubber outsole.
The Unaffected x Asics Gel-Kayano 20 Pack will release on October 31, 2024, through FR8IGHT in-store and on November 1, 2024, through Asics online and in-store and FR8IGHT online. As of this writing, the retail price has yet to be announced, and it’s unknown if the pair will be released outside of Korea.
