A staple in LA, the Nike Cortez is as popular to the City of Angels as the Nike Air Force 1 is to the City That Never Sleeps, NYC. So it's no surprise that LA-based retailer Union looks to the classic 70s runner for one of its upcoming releases. Recently leaked, two colorways are on the horizon with a tentative date for sometime in 2022.
First up we have the “Grain” edition. This pair features a premium suede upper and thick canvas detailing. The canvas on the upper is reminiscent of the traditional Mexican striped serape blankets which gives the sneaker a latin flair. Tan, brown, red and green stripes adorn the canvas of the upper. Red also accents the Swoosh on the sides, front eyestays, back heel tab and flap and tongue tag. The “Off Noir” pair has the same upper construction with green, blue and volt accents on the canvas. Union branding is represented via the yellow UN/LA tag on the side of the lateral eyestay, custom printed insoles and tongue tag and Frontman logo on the back heel. The back heel of the sneaker can be lifted to reveal Nike. Finishing things off for each pair and one of the most unique details on the Union x Nike Cortez is the midsole. The foam sports a heavily worn look with holes riddled throughout.
The Union x Nike Cortez in both “Grain” and “Off Noir” are set to release in 2022. It will launch at Union LA as well as select Nike retailers both in-store and online. They will be available in men’s sizes with a retail price set at $130. Keep it locked to our Twitter and Mobile App to stay up to date on this release as it gets closer.
