Anthony Edwards surprised the sneaker and basketball worlds when he introduced his first signature sneaker, the adidas AE 1, in December 2023. Throughout 2024, adidas and Ant dropped multiple colorways of the mid-top and low-top versions of the AE 1, garnering praise to the tune of numerous sneaker of the year awards across the sneaker media space. Finally, adidas has teased us with a preview of the follow-up to Ant-Man’s smash-hit first signature sneaker.
Most signature sneaker models run on a 12-month cycle, typically introduced around the start of the NBA season. Still, adidas is taking a different approach with Ant, who is considered the future face of the adidas Basketball division. The massive success of his AE 1 caused the brand to sit back and allow the model more time to be in the market, drumming up hype for the follow-up initially expected to be released in December 2024. Throughout last year, images of early samples of the AE 2 hit the ‘net. Alongside this, Sole Retriever was able to view an internal document detailing some of the technical aspects planned for the AE 2.

The early image, which comes from adidas’ recent Q4 2024 earnings call, obscures the full sneaker, instead showcasing the midfoot and toe of the model. Like the early leaks, dual durometer TPU louvers adorn the lateral and medial side of the toe and wrap up to the midfoot. However, the base layer has undergone a radical change compared to the samples seen last year, as a thick molded mesh replaces the thin textile on the midfoot.
Inside, the sneaker will combine Lightstrike cushioning with Lightboost foam, providing a 20% weight reduction compared to the original model. A propulsion plate for added energy return is also embedded inside the sneaker. The multi-directional rubber herringbone outsole completes the look. The AE 2 will borrow the original AE 1 colorway, With Love, combining acid orange, core black, and acid red hues for its first colorway.
The adidas AE 2 With Love will release on October 4, 2025, through adidas and select retailers online and in-store. Available in full-family sizing, the retail price is $130 for men, $100 for GS, $80 for PS, and $60 for TD.
